Already turning green
We asked you what you are doing already. You overwhelmingly told us that you already switch off lights, have reduced your plastic bag use and recycle your rubbish.
The changes adopted by fewest of you are changes to your energy supply. Only 13% of panel members use renewable energy whilst. 6% of panel members have had an energy survey of their homes. However, a promising 40% intend to make these changes in the future.
Awareness of what Hackney Council is doing
44% of members stated awareness of things Hackney Council have done to combat climate change. This means 56% of you are not informed about changes we have made to your services to help you help the planet. This is an area in which more work could be done.
Of the services you do know about, recycling is by far the most well know. 17% of you think Hackney Council encourages recycling in the borough. We’re disappointed only 4% mentioned public awareness campaigns. We need to work harder to promote the work that we do.
Attitudes to climate change
93% of you are willing to change your behaviour to tackle climate change. This is very promising. You told us the barriers to changing your behaviour are the costs that our sometimes involved (48%) and that you’d do more if you saw people around you making changes (44%). The majority of respondents also believe that big business and central government has its part to play in order for any difference to be made (44%)
